We are Closed for the 2022 Season
Eleven years ago God planted an idea within two watermelon farmers to try something very unique. Steven Dixon, a seasoned farmer and rancher, was conversing with his niece's husband, Scott Thomas and mentioned that he had been thinking about trying to grow some pumpkins. Much to Steven's surprise, Scott told him that he had been contemplating the same idea and had already purchased the seed to give it a try. The two farmers got together and along with help from their wives, decided to give it a go and "see what would happen".
The reason these two skilled farmers were so unsure about the new fruit is due to the fact that pumpkins historically do not grow well in Florida. Pumpkin and other related gourd varieties thrive in a dry cool climate and Florida's hot, wet summers provide the exact opposite of what is needed for these delicate plants.
With hard work, research and prayer we set off to see if we could even get any pumpkins to grow. The first year was nothing more than a miracle. We were shocked at how God had brought forth a crop that was not supposed to survive and allowed it to thrive. That first year we agreed that as God decided to bless us with a crop each season, we would make sure that we gave Him all the glory for the harvest. We work hard but we fully recognize the Lord as the ultimate farmer of our fields.
It is in this spirit of recognition that each year we have a specific verse of scripture that we believe speaks to that particular season. These verses are displayed at the field and are listed below.
We are now preparing for our 12th season with great excitement. This season we will be offering several new varieties of pumpkins along with our corn maze, live bluegrass music, kids hay maze and hay fort with slides. We strive to provide a family friendly atmosphere where people of all ages can come and enjoy the farm. We hope to see you at the patch!
